It's fall, y'all!

Here's this years hen of the woods mushroom. Not so big, but oh so tasty! I haven't had much time to go mushrooming. School has kept me busy. I did substitute teach last Friday for the first time this fall, and it's soooooo much easier being a teacher than a student!

Here are some photos of my last foray. I don't know what these are.
This is the path, and it is very steep, and the large root is a step up, although it isn't too obvious from this picture.
Another view of the trail.
These tiny pearls are mushrooms! So incredibly lovely! Pearls of the forest!
American slippery caps in my yard. These went into the frying pan and then into veggie lasagna with white sauce. It was pretty tasty, but I wish I had had some asparagus to put in it.

Hey, we have a hen of the woods mushroom that I saw yesterday. I wouldn't dare eat it 'cause I dont' know my 'shrooms.

Dixie, a hen of the woods is very distinctive, and one of the "safe 6" it's impossible to confuse it with a poisonous shroom, since it is so unique! Go get it! Soak it in your sink with a sprinkling of salt to get rid of bugs, wash it, and slice and sauté! You can freeze the extras. Go here to learn your shooms, morel mushroom report..
