A New Coat fit for Christmas Corsages!

I am busy subbing at school so I have had limited time to post, but here is a corsage pin in my etsy shop. It's called the Christmas Pony. Notice the dangling horseshoe charm. Its made of vintage 1930's plaid and scraps of hand syed green mohair, ribbon, and quilt shop calicos. The bearded snowman crafted during last week's first snowfall. Leah and her best friend made do with the old stash of snowman making clothes. His pinecone buttons came from our white pines.

My "new" coat. I bought it for $15 a few years ago at the Third Sunday Market. It dates to the 1910 time period, is crafted of heavy cotton velvet, lined in satin and flannel. Look at the pretty bows around this tiny pocket. I suspect this was a clever way for the wearer to find the pocket in the dark, in an era before electricity! The coat needs a bit of cleaning, and I am going to replace the lining with a new black one. I will have to find a way to close it, since the original toggles are gone. But the buttons that remain are incredible. But fragile. Still, I am going to enjoy it. It weighs a ton! Imagine wearing it in a sleigh, on the train, or in a model T car. It's that old!

The gorgeous hand corded wooden buttons. It must have taken hours of work just for the buttons! I will miss the powder blue lining, but black will be more practical.
