The Better Land by Henrietta Blackburn

I went to the antique market today, and this is what I could not leave without, this sampler. I immediately thought of my doll by Christine Crocker of Deerfield Farmhouse! So it came home with me. After looking in my treasured copy of Girlhood Embroidery by Betty Ring, I couldnt find any idea as to the date. So I google the title, and VOILA!
It was written by a woman! Felicia Hemans, or Felicia Browne. She used her poetry to support herself and her children, as her military husband left the household! So I can safely date the sampler to after the date her poem was written. AND my husband informed me that his great grandmother was named Burns, shortened from Blackburn! I had good fun taking this photo and sending it to Christine, who assured me that I hadnt paid too much for my treasure. I knew she would love it too.
